Guess everyone knows that there will or might be a BBQ this year for us. I certainly dont wish our/the BBQ to be held in school for many reasons...but hmm, I think BBQ outside the school will be much fun right! Well for the BBQ...

There will be games and of course, you'd have to pay a certain amount if you're coming. Please cooperate with us and we hope you will understand that the BBQ or... will be impossible if everyone refuses to contribute a little. Of course, we wont force you to fork out a thousand dollars but maybe each person going/in the class has to take care of some items. Hmmm, how about...

Some organizers
Some Game masters or whatever that is called (So called think of interesting games, activities or... for us to play.)
Some Food Planners (Decide on what food we'll have for the BBQ and make sure that it doesn't exceed our/the budget.)

The above must be voluntary.

We're open to all suggestions on the time/date etc. you prefer for the BBQ.
Whether you want it to be in the school holidays(June) or??? And whether you want teacher/s to be there. I mean like Mr Aw and Mdm Lidia???== If the BBQ cannot be held somehow, erm like if we dont have enough money or we cannot book a chalet, dont feel sad or dissappointed.

Oh and I would like to ask the class anyone's parent/s have a NTUC union card or sth. Cause those UNION members will have a discount when they book a chalet and of course, we can pay lesser. The card is orange(I think so) in colour and has the owner's picture on it. If your parent/s have the card, please kindly ask them if they wish to help us book a chalet. And erm if they dont wish to, just thank them. But we only need one kind parent to help us book the chalet. Thanks.

IQ Quiz – Save the smurfs

Gargamel had captured 100 of the smurfs. He is going to kill them in the next morning. However, he is in the mood for games. So he told the smurfs, “I will let all of you go if you are able to answer a simple question.”

The smurfs are baffled. Gargamel explained, “All of you will blindfolded and be given a hat to wear in the morning tomorrow. It will either be a black or white hat. All of you will be lining up in a straight line facing the back of each other and we will remove the blindfold.

The smurfs are devastated… How can it be possible to know the colour of their own hats when they can’t see theirs but is able to see those in front?

You can actually design your own Favicon. Yeah, which means you can choose your favourite colours for your Favicon. I know, it's still lame... You can make one at HERE !!! For free yeah!!!!Isn't it cool eh???You want screenshot?Come lah, I give you.

After you have created your Favicon, you'll need to download it by clicking on the Download Favicon button.

After downloading your Favicon, you need a trusty host that enable you to upload .ico files which are Favicon files. Some of the hosts dont really allow that kinda file to be uploaded. For our cb, I used Pic Panda!!!! Their Favicon is very cute lurhs, so professional... They allow files like .JPEG, .JPG, .GIF, .BMP, .PNG, .ICO, .TIF, and .TIFF to be uploaded. And I dont think you even have to sign up to upload your pictures. Did I sign up???I think I didn't...Yeah, I didn't.

What happened was Mr Aw sprained the ankle when I was playing in the Inter-Civil Service Bball competition. It's been dino-years since I had sprained my ankle (that badly).

There you go. My ter-kah.

Maybe we should have a comparison to see the great difference. Wahaha!

Mr Kenneth Tan is being kind when he said I just need the ‘loh’ and can start eating the ter-kah. -.-“

So what do we do if we have a sprained ankle? According to what I understand, we should immediately use the RICE method.

R = Rest
I = Ice
C = Compression
E = Elevation

According to http://orthoinfo.aaos.org, Mr Aw contributed to the statistic of 25,000 people who unfortunately sprained their ankles.

The ligaments of the ankle hold the ankle bones and joint in position. They protect the ankle joint from abnormal movements-especially twisting, turning, and rolling of the foot. A ligament is an elastic structure.

Ligaments usually stretch within their limits, and then go back to their normal positions. When a ligament is forced to stretch beyond its normal range, a sprain occurs. A severe sprain causes actual tearing of the elastic fibers.

Grade 1 sprain:
Slight stretching and some damage to the fibers (fibrils) of the ligament.
Grade 2 sprain:
Partial tearing of the ligament. If the ankle joint is examined and moved in certain ways, abnormal looseness (laxity) of the ankle joint occurs.
Grade 3 sprain:
Complete tear of the ligament. If the examiner pulls or pushes on the ankle joint in certain movements, gross instability occurs.

I think mine is a grade two sprain. And I had injured the calcaneofibular ligament and my talus is badly bruised. The swelling was pretty bad. Till now which is one week since I injure it, there is still some swelling. Anyway, back to RICE.

Rest your ankle by not walking on it.
Ice should be immediately applied. It keeps the swelling down. It can be used for 20 minutes to 30 minutes, three or four times daily. Combine ice with wrapping to decrease swelling, pain and dysfunction.
Compression dressings, bandages or ace-wraps immobilize and support the injured ankle.
Elevate your ankle above your heart level for 48 hours.

All ankle sprains recover through three phases:
Phase 1 includes resting, protecting the ankle and reducing the swelling (one week).
Phase 2 includes restoring range of motion, strength and flexibility (one week to two weeks).
Phase 3 includes gradually returning to activities that do not require turning or twisting the ankle and doing maintenance exercises. This will be followed later by being able to do activities that require sharp, sudden turns (cutting activities) such as tennis, basketball or football (weeks to months).

I think I am not doing a good job of resting as there are still games coming up. For your information, in another civil service competition for Netball, a MOE team represented mainly by Greendale Teachers clinched the Third placing! The first and second spots went to MINDEF and MOE Team (another team) respectively. For bball, the games are still going on. My point is this: Need to REST REST REST then can heal! Duh!

Wear these for protection? No need lah~ Wahaha.

The next day after I sprained my ankle, I went to see a Chinese sinseh (don’t know if it’s a good thing to do anot). Got to make sure there is no broken bone before you actually go and visit Chinese sinseh. The thing is this: After the treatment, I was so much in pain that I can’t really move out of the medical hall. I actually have to ask a young girl to give up her seat to me and let me rest! The Chinese sinseh also came out and ask if I am alright. I assured him that I will be okie after resting. So after some 5 minutes, I trudged on and made my way to the main road to hail a cab. But the interesting thing is this: Along the way, 4 people actually offered to help me, after seeing how my face is distorted by the pain in my ankle.

Trust me. My face was worse.

Dear Orh-nees,

So sorry for the late post. I have been using these few days to clear my markings i.e. Topical Test for Angles and Parallel Line Chapter and also planning stuff for NCC and Green Club. Now then, I have some time (though its super early morning now at 3am) to post this. =)

First and foremost, thanx to all students who had given your thanks to your teachers, be in in the form of presents, handshakes or just a simple thank you! =D

Teaching is a profession where rewards are not immediately given.

Teachers are continuing to 'give' and 'invest' in students, shaping their character. It is impossible to know the product outcome, whether this student will turn out good or not. Because it takes a situation, a testing one, to really determine the kind of person he or she is. Thus teachers don't really know whether we are doing a good enough work on you or not. But... we surely, hope to see that you who are on the recieving end, do appreciate our investment, our shaping, our continuous giving of 'love, care and concern' on you! =D

I believe everyday is a Happy Teacher's Day ooo! hehehe~ *so be nice to teachers' everyday lah!* =P

REVEALING THE TRUTH!

Alright. Now is the time for me to know you better and for you to know yourself better too!

Million Dollar Question is: How many hours do you spend on school work each day? (Consider only weekdays i.e. Mon to Fri)

Bonus Question: What about Sat and Sun? =)

For Mr Aw, I think I spend near 12 hours in school (7.30am - 6.30pm) and its pretty tiring (tired out), energy zapping (zapped till none left) and brain juice draining (yeah, no more juice leh) near the end of the day. So when Mr Aw reaches home, its like the Z-Monster is right on me. And I went to look for 'Uncle Zhou' to play chess. =P

However, even though I'm tired, energy down to bare minimum and juice-less at that point in time, I STILL just gotta squeeze that EXTRA strength, energy and juice to mark, prepare lessons and settle admin stuff (blogging? Wahaha!) during the weekdays.

Weekend will be much similar except I will give myself a good break from work but still kinda work 3 hours still. Not very efficient I would say for these 3 hours but efficiency can be improved. Still working on it though. =)

So what about these dear Orh-Nees? Wahaha!

What is your studying habits and timing like? What kind of student are you? Those who 'hug buddha's leg' at the last minute kind of students? -_-"

Secret of a Genius

Thanx Yuqing for the administrative part. So what's the first post from me about? How about telling u guys ur average score for the Math Common Test is 14.6/20? Hahaha~ tomorrow we'll go through the test paper. =)

Anyway, how can we do the survey thing here ah? Name for 1E1s' boys and girls... orh-nee? duh... Seriously, anyone here can do the survey thingy over here?

Before I go off, let me share with you my story. Not really a story as its real! It's during my university days in Sheares Hall NUS.

=== Story ===

He was there. Playing singles at the badminton court. The time is 4pm. I walked off.
He was there. Playing doubles at the badminton court. The time is 6pm. I walked away.
He was still there. Playing his beloved sport at the same court. Practically all the time. I start to think.

This boy is gonna so fail his tests and exams. I remember his face. He is decent looking, not as handsome as a certain emmm AKYA. But well, his sharp nose and infectious smile might have gotten him labelled as handsome by some. Hehehe~

I told my friend Vincent about this guy. "Vince, this guy is really wasting his time away! Not studying at all! How is he going to pass his exams?"

Vincent replied, "Alan, that guy you mentioned, is the top scholar from the Science Faculty."

I nearly puked my wanton mee when I heard this. The guy who spent the whole day playing and not studying? How is that possible? Is he a genius? O.o"

The next day, he was there again. Playing the same old badminton at the same old court. Not one to ignore my curiousity, I walked up to him and start to bombard him with my queries. "How come you can do well for exam without studying?!", I asked.

"Alan, the time you saw me playing, was the time I HAD ALREADY done my revision for the day." He replied. He further explainefd that each day, he would, without fail, study for 4 hours at home. Every single day. Weekend included.

I said, "That's the secret? Not that you are a genius to begin with?"

He replied YEAH... thats the secret! Just having to study 4 hours at home. He humbly said that he is not a genius but feels that its through his consistent hardwork (4 hours a day) that he is able to really do well and fulfill his potential academically. Genius? Hardly. Hardworking student who always can't solve the problem at the first try but keep trying and trying, asking friends and teachers for help if need be till he is able to solve every single problem? Definitely.

So that's the end of the so called story. The secret has been revealed. Are you a genius? Maybe, maybe not. But till then, let's start with the 4 hours revision. OUSH~!!! =P

Failed to make a favicon which is very interesting but confusing.Since blogger does not allow people to upload any file, I can't make the favicon of 1e1 to appear and whch is pathetic and full of sorrow.It would be so much better if I could make it all happen but please, I am not so smart to tell Blogger to actually change the concept you know like to allow everyone or ever user to upload their crap and so on.And this entry just keeps saving as a draft and saving and saving.What a pity just look at it above!!!!
